       The "cirit" equivalent of "gooaaallllllll!!"

The horsemanship sport "cirit" has been played in Central Asia and
Anatolia for centuries.  Both young and old living in villages in Selim
district of Kars province have taken cirit to a new level of interest. For
example, in Kekeç village cirit-lovers play the game on the snow in
the early morning, with temperature at minus-12.

The players in Kekeç, Başköy and Hasbey villages play for about two
hours, displaying all the beauty and fine points of the game.  Some
older men, too, mount the horses to recall their youth and even some
women, enthused by the spectacle, ride horses for the first time in
their lives.

Tahir Yıldırım (71), who left Hasbey village 40 years ago to go to
northern Cyprus, returned to his village to renew his love for
cirit, mounting a horse and joining in the game.   He explained that
"we used to play cirit just like this in our village in our 20s.  Sometimes
on the snow.  I'm so glad our young people are carrying on the tradition
of cirit."

Shouldn't he be wearing a helmet, or at least a hat?...

Muhammet Ekinci added that "the snow and cold can't deter us from
playing cirit and passing it on to coming generations.  Our horses
are a bit raw so they have to be trained but we play cirit well."
Büşra Bayam, one of the lady spectators, said that after the game
finished she couldn't help but get on a horse and ride around a bit.
